No matter if you are a dyed in the wool Tory, a Labour red or an SNP supporter (other political parties are available), or you are a Brexiter or Remainer, those of us in the printing industry could be pressed into action now that Theresa May has called a snap election.
The General Election, Thursday 8th June
The election is due to be held on Thursday June 8th and this will mean that all the political parties will begin campaigning straight away. And as print is such an engaging medium that focuses peoples eyeballs (think of the Boris Johnson campaign bus with the poster on the side for Brexit which attracted so much attention) there will be many printing presses swinging into action producing flyers, brochures, cards, stickers, mailers, posters, flags and banners etc.
Printing Industry Boost
BPIF chief executive Charles Jarrold commented on the forthcoming boost for the print industry saying:
“It will generate a lot of print, because print as we know is the most engaging medium from which to absorb information,”
“I think it’s a fascinating situation. I’ve said all along that I thought it would be good for the government to go to the country, having had the referendum,” he added. “Generally this is a good thing. It will be hard-fought, but it will enable everyone to move on from the referendum, and to move on in a more seamless manner.”
And Adare chief executive Robert Whiteside told PrintWeek: “A general election always means lots of print and that is obviously good news for the print industry. That is certainly the case for Adare as we have relationships with circa 50 councils in the UK whereby we will be servicing their requirements in terms of election-related print”.
